In The Lancet, Kevin Hall and I Call Out Weight Loss Studies – Dr. Yoni Freedhoff: Weighty Matters
The opening paragraph in this week’s “Best Article of the Week” by Dr. Yoni Freedhoff is as follows:
“Over the past several decades, dozens of randomised controlled trials have compared various diets for the treatment of obesity. Ideally, such studies should have provided strong evidence for clear clinical recommendations and also put a stop to society’s endless parade of fad diets. Unfortunately, the evidence base remains contested and the “diet wars” continue unabated”
For anyone who has tried to lose weight, or for those practitioners who aim to help others on their quest to shed the pounds, you know the struggle that can ensue. While fad diets may work in the short term, it’s the long term that really counts. Many of our clients might be tempted to latch on to the latest diet craze, however, what does the research says about their proposed diet strategies and long-term weight loss success?
Fortunately, Dr. Freedhoff has done the work for us, examining the research and evaluating the effectiveness of several diet plans and their long term success. You’ll definitely want to have a read; the results just may surprise you.
