New Concerns about the Human Papillomavirus Vaccine – Dr. Scott S. Field, MD
The conversation surrounding vaccinations is a hot one, with so many different opposing views, both scientific and not. As Naturopathic Physicians it is imperative that we enable our clients to make informed choices about their health, and being up to date on the latest research can help our clients make important decisions, especially when it comes to the safety and efficacy of treatments.
This week our best article is doing just that. According to the American College of Pediatricians “it has recently come to the attention of the College that one of the recommended vaccines [Gardasil] could possibly be associated with the very rare but serious condition of premature ovarian failure”. Along with this finding, the report details that a number of concerns regarding this vaccination should be addressed, including long-term ovarian function, physician adverse case reporting, and potential mechanisms of action involved in this health finding.
While vaccination will likely stay a polarizing topic, being informed about the benefits and risks of these medical treatments will always be the best way in which we can help our clients. They turn to us for advice and support in making health choices that have profound effects both now and in the far reaching future. After all, as the fifth principle states, “Doctor as Teacher”.
